Volatile Times in the Market & My Best Day of the Year

Today was my best day of the year. I was prepared, I focused on quality set ups and executed my trade plans.

We are in some very serious and volatile times right now there’s; no question about that. It’s very important to have a plan during this market!

Don’t be the guy (or lady) who has called the top for four years and it never came. Don’t be the one that says “I knew it was going to pull back” and never shorted. Most importantly don’t be the guy to sit there and try to call the bottom!

Today is not a day to be a hero and try to call/find the bottom — best of luck today, cash is king for those unsure

It’s okay to trade the dips and it’s okay to anticipate a trade as long as you’re familiar with things and have a plan. However, to sit there without a plan, buying things because you think they’ve dropped “too far,” is going to get you in a load of trouble.

This morning gave us some fantastic opportunities – likely traders and investors getting margined out of their positions at market open. That gave us some reactive trades, which I, fortunately, was prepared for out of the open.

You’ll notice in the chat logs I suggest one thing – if subscribers are planning on trading certain names, be sure to have risk based off at least ¼ to ½ the range, especially out of the open. What does this mean? If the stock is trading with a $27 point range and you’re only looking to risk no more than $1/share, than you might as well throw the trade idea away.

There is a reason I scale in on trades. You’re not going to nail every trade every time. Many times you may have the RIGHT idea but not the perfect entry. If you’re idea is right then there is no reason why you should be emotionally influenced by a trade at hand. To prevent that, you start in small and wait to be proved right (ie: pulls back or breaks out as expected, breaks over prior resistance/under prior support as anticipated) before adding to a winner.

Where is the market going? NO ONE HAS ANY IDEA. I thought we’d be topped out four years ago, three years ago, two years ago … 6 months ago. Stop trying to predict things, and just go with the flow. I always say I don’t invest and it’s because of days and weeks like this – 6-12 months of upside and 2-3 days gives it all back? The market, in my opinion, is a shell game. All these names are just trading vehicles – billion dollar companies created overnight. But how does that come into play? Why should I care if something is overvalued? I shouldn’t! Because a 2 billion dollar company becomes a 5 billion then becomes 10 billion. I see so many traders trying to get an “understanding” only to end up missing the trade at hand.

Focus on solid risk vs. reward set ups. Focus on compounding gains. Focus on YOU.

Be selective in the market and if unfamiliar or unsure SIT IT OUT !!

Don’t try to predict a gap up or gap down in the markets. You’re leaving it to chance – there’s no reason for it.
